I would love to share the experience of Yahweh Style Yoga with you! I always feel close to God when I am on my mat, and God has drawn me closer to Him and has richly blessed me through my practice. I am honored that God is giving me this opportunity to nourish others through Christian Yoga.
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 John 1:2
What is Yahweh Style Yoga?
Yahweh is the name for God in the bible. Yahweh Style Yoga is Yoga taught from a Christian perspective which emphasizes wellness of the body and soul through yoga exercises, purposeful breathing, and the practice of mindfulness. Through the use of inspirational music, prayer, biblical scripture and biblical meditation, participants have the opportunity to experience the physical benefits of yoga exercise, while growing spiritually as well.
I teach Chair Yoga classes for men and women who prefer or cannot practice easily on a yoga mat and Gentle Journey Level 1 and Level 2 which are gentle practices for beginners as well as for those more experienced in yoga. Faithful Flow is an intermediate level flow class for men and women and for youth ages 13 and up who are active, fit beginners or are more experienced in yoga. All four classes will help you to draw closer to God, relax, breath better, build strength and flexibility and improve balance. The classes run weekly on an 8 week series basis and are 45 min. to one hour in length. The series are very reasonably priced to encourage all people who might want to try Christian yoga to join in. A health questionnaire and waiver must be filled out and signed prior to participating in classes. For current students, please let me know if there is a change in your health status or you are dealing with an injury so I can safely guide you in your practice.
I would also consider requests to do a Yahweh Style Yoga class at your studio, retreat, conference or church. Please contact me for more information by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
What are the spiritual benefits of practicing Yahweh Style Yoga?
The spiritual benefits of practicing Yahweh Style Yoga are unique to each person. God knows each and every one of us and He will use your practice to reach you in a very personal way if you open your heart to Him. There does however seem to be some commonalities about what people experience while practicing yoga from a Christian perspective. For example, most people find that they are able to come to that quiet place before God which allows Him through The Holy Spirit to nurture, to love and to reveal to them what He wants them to know or wants them to do. Many people experience an emotional reaction in their practice; it can be joy, peace, gratitude, or even grief and sadness. That is ok; sometimes God wants us to face those things in our hearts, so that He can bring healing, forgiveness and especially His love to us. Remember, that you are His Beloved! And that you are in a loving and supportive environment with a qualified and experienced Christian yoga teacher and other caring people who just want to improve their well-being, just like you!
Isn’t yoga a religion? How can yoga and Christianity be compatible?
It is overwhelmingly stated throughout yoga literature that yoga is not a religion. It is a methodology not a theology. We can think of yoga as a discipline that can be practiced within or without the context of any faith.
In Christian yoga or Yahweh Style Yoga, we incorporate the Christian faith into the practice of yoga. “We can thank God for how he created our bodies and enjoy physical movement, like yoga, that brings health to our bodies. Our bodies work best in the way he designed them to work and practices that support the healthy function of our bodies are ultimately from Him“ (from Yahweh Yoga’s book, Christian Yoga, Restoration for Body and Soul) . In Christian yoga our goals are centered on wholeness, holiness and fitness through Christ Jesus alone.
May God Himself, The God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together – spirit, soul and body- and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23 MSG)
I am not a Christian, can I still participate?
Anybody and everybody who is interested in practicing yoga in a Christian context is welcome! Perhaps you have experienced a spiritual awakening practicing yoga in the past and are interested in exploring the idea of Christianity in your practice. Whatever peaks your interest in trying Christian yoga is absolutely ok!
